Anti-inflammatory increase death risks!

10 June 2010 | Drugs, Health, Wellness

One of the most popular pain/anti-inflammatory drugs, ibuprofen (found in over-counter drugs Advil and Motrin), is under fire again with the latest study out of Denmark. According to the study, “There was a nearly threefold increase in the number of deaths from gastrointestinal bleeding within 1 year of ibuprofen prescription.” Among those who were most at risk were patients that had hypertension, diabetes, and several different kinds of cancer. Something that you must keep in mind is that these were prescriptions and under the care of medical professionals.

This is not the first time anti-inflammatories have been put under fire. Back in 2008, ibuprofen, Vioxx, and Celebrex (related article) were put under fire to increase the liklihood of a second heart attack. Similarly to the most recent study, there were increased risks for those suffering from hypertension and diabetes.
